CLIENT: United States | SERVICE: Buy & Sell Gold in Melbourne CBD
Bullion Hub is an Australian precious-metals business based in Melbourne, specializing in the buying and selling of gold, silver, bullion, jewellery, and related precious-metal services. The project involved completely migrating the existing e-commerce website from Shopify to WordPress while rebuilding the website with a custom theme and custom functionality.
The project went beyond a standard platform migration. A major part of the work involved developing custom WordPress functionality for live precious-metal pricing, allowing product prices and market-rate information to work with live API data. The website also required the migration and restructuring of existing products, pages, blog content, and SEO-related information while maintaining a smooth e-commerce experience. The final website combines a premium financial/precious-metals aesthetic with a practical e-commerce structure, allowing customers to explore gold and silver products, view market prices, learn about buying and selling, and contact Bullion Hub. The website also includes live gold and silver pricing information and dedicated product collections.
The primary objective was to move the complete Bullion Hub e-commerce website from Shopify to WordPress while maintaining the core business functionality and improving the flexibility of the website. Because Bullion Hub operates in the precious-metals market, product prices are closely connected to constantly changing market rates. This made dynamic pricing one of the most important technical requirements of the project.
Key objectives included:
The biggest challenge was that this was not simply a visual redesign or a basic Shopify-to-WordPress migration. Bullion Hub’s business depends heavily on precious-metal prices, meaning the website needed to handle information that changes continuously. Gold and silver rates are displayed as live market information on the website, and the site also uses pricing information throughout its product and market-rate experiences.
Main challenges included:
The solution was approached as a complete e-commerce platform migration combined with custom WordPress development. Instead of simply importing the Shopify products into a standard WooCommerce setup, the website was rebuilt around Bullion Hub’s specific business requirements. The design and development focused on three major areas:
Platform Migration + Custom Development + Dynamic Pricing
The new website provides dedicated sections for buying and selling gold and silver, product collections, live rates, informational content, FAQs, blogs, and contact/appointment functionality.
The solution included:
The most technically challenging part of the project was implementing the live pricing functionality. Unlike a standard e-commerce website where a product can have a fixed price entered manually in the WordPress dashboard, precious-metal prices are influenced by changing market conditions. Bullion Hub’s website therefore required custom functionality to work with live market data rather than relying solely on manually entered product prices.
The current website demonstrates this approach through live gold and silver rate displays and product pricing connected to the precious-metals market.
Difficulties addressed during the project:
The completed project transformed Bullion Hub from a Shopify-based website into a custom WordPress e-commerce platform built around the company’s specific business requirements. The new website provides a much more flexible foundation for custom development while retaining the core e-commerce functionality required by the business.
Key improvements include:
The website now combines e-commerce, live market information, educational content, and physical-location services into one unified experience. The current site includes gold and silver products, live rates, FAQs, blog content, and appointment/contact functionality.
This project demonstrated that an e-commerce migration can become significantly more complex when the business depends on real-time external data and custom pricing logic. Moving from Shopify to WordPress was not simply a matter of transferring products and pages; the new platform needed to support the unique requirements of a precious-metals business. One of the biggest learnings was the importance of custom development when standard e-commerce functionality is not enough. Building custom plugins provided greater control over the website’s pricing and business-specific functionality instead of forcing the client into the limitations of pre-built solutions.
The project also reinforced the importance of API reliability and data handling. When product pricing depends on external market information, the website needs to retrieve, process, and display that information in a way that remains consistent with the e-commerce experience. Another important learning was that migration and SEO need to be treated as part of the development process, not as an afterthought. Products, pages, blogs, URLs, content, and SEO information all need to be considered when moving an established website to a new platform.
Finally, the project highlighted the value of building a flexible platform architecture around the client’s long-term needs. A custom WordPress theme and plugin structure gave Bullion Hub greater control over its website and created room for additional custom functionality in the future.
The Bullion Hub project was a complete Shopify-to-WordPress e-commerce migration combined with custom theme and plugin development. Unlike a standard website migration, the project required significant custom functionality because Bullion Hub’s products and services are closely connected to changing gold and silver market prices. The live pricing/API integration was therefore one of the most important technical components of the project.
Alongside the custom development, the existing products, pages, blogs, and SEO-related content were migrated and reorganized within WordPress. The result is a flexible e-commerce platform that combines product sales, live market information, educational resources, buying and selling services, and appointment functionality.
Overall, the project demonstrates how custom WordPress development, API integration, e-commerce architecture, content migration, and SEO preservation can be combined to successfully move a complex, data-driven e-commerce business from one platform to another.
